the Keroro Platoon!!


SERGEANT KERORO

The leader of the Keroro Platoon, sent from the planet Keron along with 4 subordinates, is given the task to take over Pekopon (Earth). His attempt failed through the encounter with the Hinatas, which he ultimately befriend, be-slaved, be-pet each of the Hinata members respectively. Whatever remains of his ambition to conquer Earth are constantly distracted by his obsession with “Gunpla” (Gundam Plastic Models), specifically those of the original gundam series “Mobile Suit Gundam 0078″ that came out in1978. He embodies the definition of “Otaku” (Those who replace much of their social life with the passion for their collection, whatever that might be) and is the sole comic relief of the series.


PRIVATE (2nd Class) TAMAMA

The lowest ranked and most recently recruited member of the Keroro Platoon and apparently the youngest, since he has a tail of a tadpole. He is desperate for Keroro’s approval and thus sugar-coats everything he says and does in his presence. He is the cute one of the group, but has a nasty split personality, just like his owner/friend Nishizawa Momoka. Tamama also serves as a tribute to DragonBall/ DragonBall Z by the great Akira Toriyama, a very successful series that runs from 1984 well into the 90’s if you don’t count GT. Tamama’s energy beams and his fighting abilities has the likeness of many of the DBZ fighters, which gives a nostalgic feeling to those those familiar with it.


CORPORAL GIRORO

Competent in assault combat and being really the only true militant of the platoon, Giroro is often unsatisfied with Keroro as a leader. Despite of that the two actually shares a strong bond through a relationship that spans way back to their childhood. Giroro’s stubbornness kept him from living within the Hinata residence (where the secret base locates) and from confessing his affection for Natsumi. Although Keroro is the one that is obsessed with Gundams, it is actually the character of Giroro that pays homage to Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Gundam series, with weapons and artilleries that highly resembles those that used by the robots (a.k.a. MS- Mobile Suit) in various Gundam series.


SERGEANT MAJOR KURURU

Kururu is the weird one and the techie of the platoon. Even though he outranks Keroro, he serves as his subordinate. He doesn’t seem to be too conformed to rules, just as long as what he does interests him, and that includes serving under Keroro. He is a loner and prefers that way since he barely socialize even with his own comrades. His geek-vibe, shady character is the complete inverse of Angol Mois’s eye-blinding brilliance in both appearance and personality. Kururu is the one that invents everything and provides all the solutions, which is reminded of Doraemon (another well-known series from the 80’s), and is the main reason why the platoon can survive so well on Earth.


LANCE CORPORAL DORORO (ZERORO)

Formerly known as Zeroro, Dororo changed his name under the realization that the rest of the platoon had forgotten about him. He is the last member of the platoon introduced and remains mostly independent from the group throughout the series. Dororo shares the same bond with Keroro just as Giroro does, as the 3 grew up and trained together. However he has been deeply hurt by Keroro inconsideration and hence becomes vulnerable from time to time. He is a master ninja that loves nature & has a genuine feeling for Earth. Coincidentally “Dororo” is a 60’s manga/anime series done by the famous Osamu Tezuka (artist of Astro Boy, Black Jack and Metropolis etc…), in which the character of Dororo is a thief.
